Q: Apple Pencil has to be reconnected?

Just got an Apple Pencil and iPad Pro. Love it! Used it last night and went to use it this morning and the pencil did nothing. I had to connect it to the iPad and reconnect it in Bluetooth settings. Is this normal? Shouldn't it just work all of the time without reconnecting?

    It should stay connected.

Make sure the pencil is charged.

    Charge your Apple Pencil

For fast charging, plug your Apple Pencil into the Lightning connector on your iPad Pro. If the battery runs out, you can charge it from your iPad Pro for 15 seconds and get 30 minutes of use.*

You can also plug Apple Pencil into a USB port with the Apple Pencil Charging Adapter and a Lightning to USB cable.

To see how much charge your Apple Pencil has left, check the Widgets view in Notifications on your iPad Pro.

Thanks. Hoping it had to do with not having a full charge, even though it read 100% when I opened the box. Going to give it a full charge and see what happens. If it happens again I might contact Apple.

Your iPad is definitely covered under the one year limited warranty.

Make sure your iPad software is up to date.

Tap Settings > General > Software Update. The v9.3.3 update is available.

Thanks. Both are covered (iPad and pencil). I got them yesterday. I'm guessing it has to do with the first charge or something. Or maybe the iPad restarted. Everything up to date.

Got home and tried pencil. Worked fine.No reconnecting needed. I installed 9.3.3 last night so don't remember if I used the pencil after that or not. That restart might have done it.
