Q: why have my photos become videos?

iPhone 6s, without warning many of my photos have become 2-3 second videos! How can I revet them to just photos? and why did this happen?

When viewing the Live Photo on your iPhone: tap the share button, tap the duplicate button, then tap Duplicate as Still Photo.

you may have inadvertently slid the photo selection to video
you may be able to extract them with this

It sounds as if you have activated Live Photos. This is a feature of 3D Touch on the iPhone 6s series of phones. When you open the camera app, in the top bar of the phone in the center, you will see a circle with a dotted line circle around it. That turns Live Photos off/on. If it is white, it is off, yellow it is off. That is what is making the 2-3 second video clips. Turn that off, and you will be okay.

Depending on your computer, when you import these photos to the computer, you will see both the initial photo, and then a short video clip with the same name.

To turn the feature off, tap on the Live Photo icon in the camera app:

(Yellow is on).

Thanks kindly, helpful and on my MAC the photos remain photos, but I did check the setting and I've been using the "live" setting without issue for 6 months no issue. Just found it odd that my "still photos" are gone and have been replaced by the 2-3 second "live" video....double checked to make sure I was not in "video" or some other mode, I was not. I did turn off the "live" photo setting...

Thank you Chris,
I appreciate the response...just can't get the "still" photos back they are converted to the 2-3 second "live" videos. Fortunately the "still" is inside the video and I'll just need to spend some time doing frame capture...

Appreciate you responding. I still find it odd that though my settings (pano, video, photo) had not changed the "still photos" while taken in "live mode" suddenly became videos. I did the download and will just spend some time doing a frame capture, fortunately none of the pix have been lost...just the "heartbreak of technology!" LOL
