Trying to update to 10.10 from 10.9

I have a MacBook Pro, Version 10.9.5. I just downloaded Microsoft Office, for school and I can't complete the download because I don't have 10.10 or later. (I just did a software update so I hadn't bothered to check... An expensive mistake.) Anyways, I tried to go on to get the newer software, but my App Store says I have no updates available. Also, I went through the App Store to get version 10.10, and downloaded a 10.10.5 combo pack (featured below), but can't open it either because I don't already have 10.10? I don't understand it. 😟User uploaded file

the 10.10.5 combo pack is an UPDATE for an already-Installed 10.10.x.

You need to PURCHASE 10.10 or 10.11, then install it. If you do not already own a copy of 10.10, it is no longer available for sale as new. Luckily, the latest one (10.11) is on sale for $0.

It would be prudent to have a Trusted backup before you begin. Over 350,000 files are installed, but (by design) none of your files are removed.
