Q: What is KHBookFrameSettings.nib???

Greetings to everybody who knows more about the Mac than I do.

I was looking at the list of "Login Items" in system preferences (within the Users & Groups settings), and found an item called KHBookFrameSettings.nib.

Does anybody have any idea what this is?

I have a pretty long list of Login Items.  If there are any that I don't need, I'd like to remove them from the list.  This item is a prime suspect.

Thanks!

Clint

I'm guessing here, but does the game "Kingdom Hearts" ring a bell?

    Thanks for the reply.

Kingdom Hearts doesn't ring a bell.  Just to be sure, I did a Spotlight search for "Kingdom Hearts" and Spotlight showed nothing on my computer that matched that.  (Although, if I understand correctly, Spotlight doesn't really show you everything that is on your hard drive.)

You can also take the pragmatic route: simply deactivate it. If something suddenly isn't working anymore, it will be easy to fix: the item will still be on your Mac. Finding it will be of later concern.

That's a good suggestion.  I'll give it a try.  Thanks!

(I assume there is a way to get around the limitations on where Spotlight searches, so that any file on the hard drive can be found.)

Yes Spotlight searches, or better Finder searches, can be enhanced. This is just an example: you can tweak it in many ways: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202121

It's amazing what you can find if you try right clicking on something!

In the Login Items list, I right clicked on KHBookFrameSettings.nib.  A box popped up to "Show in Finder".  It turns out that KHBookFrameSettings.nib is buried pretty deeply in the folder that contains iPhoto.

I rarely use iPhoto, but it's an Apple app, so I guess that it's harmless to allow this to be one of my Login Items.

BTW, thanks for pointing me to the support article on expanding Spotlight's searches.

Good sleuthing! But I think this is a fluke: Apple discourages the use of Login Items since Yosemite.

I have had iPhoto for years, and not once has it placed anything in my login items. I would be suspicious as to how that component generated by Xcode for the iPhoto user interface was placed into your login items.

Have you always obtained, and updated iPhoto exclusively from Apple sources: purchases, software updates, or updater downloads?

    That's interesting.

The only way I have updated iPhoto is by software updates from the Apple App Store.

Maybe I'll try deleting it from the Login Items list and see what happens.
