Jul 28, 2016 11:11 AMby turingtest2,Bit of a punt, but try Repair security permissions for iTunes for Windows. It might also help to exclude any antivirus software from monitoring the iTunes Media folder.

Jul 29, 2016 9:32 AMby C Gull,Thank you javaliga. I carefully looked at the links but they didn't answer my problem. It's the conversion from wma (used on WMP) to aac or mp3 (required by itunes). I've managed to copy a number of songs over, but those I really want are stuck between the two systems! Do you have any more suggestions? I'm still trying to sort this out!

(The Error says: "One or more of the songs you are adding to iTunes, including [song].wma, are in the WMA format. iTunes will automatically convert them to the AAC format so they can be added to your iTunes library." I then click on Convert, and the next error message is, "An unknown error occurred (1001)". Then the [+] opens to "2 total errors. An unknown error occurred (1001) An unknown error occurred (-54)"
The problem is in the conversion from wma (used on WMP) to aac or mp3 (required by itunes). I'd be so pleased to get more help as I'm going nuts trying to sort this out!

Jul 29, 2016 10:17 AMby turingtest2,HelpfulYou can try a rebuild of iTunes. See the second box in Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates. Alternatively you could install Audacity and use it for format conversion.
