how do you transfer photos from 4th gen iPod touch to mac

i tried this first. did not work.
Are these images from the device's camera roll that you're trying to copy off? If so those instructions should have worked. At what point do they fail to work as expected? On the other hand if they were added to the device using iTunes you then would need third party software to retrieve them.
