Q: How can I recover from ios 9.3.3 caused boot loop

When I allowed my iPhone 6 to download ios 9.3.3, the result was a completely useless iPhone 6 stuck in a boot loop.  I tried connecting it to iTunes on my Mac, but that didn't help.

I've tried this (now several times).  I've also tried turning both my Mac and iPhone off.  I'm using an apple supplied cord to connect them.  Most of the time it fails out when trying to contact the phone.  The message I get is "The iPhone "iPhone" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (error 9)." I have also gotten "The iPhone could not be restored. The device cannot be found." I've tried both Updating and Restore and Update with no success.

I just went through this on a iphone 6.  I had to DFU the device and restore/update with itunes.  This will factory reset your device and you'll have to restore from a backup if you have one.

With the device connected to your computer hold power and home till the phone shuts off.  once off then release the power but keep holding the home button.  The screen may not give you any indication but itunes will prompt you for a restore.  Go through the hoops and say a little prayer.

How to fix error 3194 in iTunes when you restore or update iPhone or iPad

If you’re getting Error 3194 when you try to restore your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch then here’s how to resolve the error.

This guide could also be useful to fix the following errors in addition to Error 3194:

    • Error 17
    • Error 1639
    • Errors 3000-3020
    • Errors 3100-3999
    • This device isn’t eligible for the requested build

    Check your hosts file

The problem seems to occur because iTunes cannot communicate with Apple’s update servers. You need to check your hosts file, and there is no entry for “gs.apple.com”.Mac

    • Quit iTunes
    • Launch Terminal
    • Enter the following command and press Enter/Return.

    sudo nano /private/etc/hosts

    • Enter the password you use to sign in to your computer when prompted, and press Enter/Return.
    • Terminal will display the hosts file as seen below.
    • If you see any entries for “gs.apple.com” then you need to either remove or comment the entry.
    • Navigate to the “gs.apple.com” entry using the arrow keys, and add the # symbol and a space at the beginning of the “gs.apple.com” entry.
    • Press Control-O to save the file.
    • Press the Enter key when asked for the filename and Control-X to exit the editor.
    • Restart your computer.

    Windows

    • Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, tap Search, type run, and then tap theRun icon. Or, if you are using a mouse, point to the upper-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer down, click Search, type run, and then click the Run icon.
    • Type %WinDir%\System32\Drivers\Etc in the Open box, and then tap or clickOK.
    • It should open the Etc folder. Double click on the Hosts file to edit it.
    • If you see any entries for “gs.apple.com” then remove it and save the Hosts file.

That’s it, now try to restore your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch again, and you should ideally not get the Error 3194 error again.

I Was able to DFU mine after rebooting my laptop and changing usb ports. Thanks again for the trash updates that brick our $700 devices. Last Apple product for me.

I Was able to completely wipe the phone. I had to restart my laptop, switch usb ports and amazingly enough it worked. open itunes and plug in the usb cable. Then simultaneously hold down both the home button and the power button. Once the black screen with the apple logo appears, release the power button but continue to hold the home button for about 10 secs. You should see a usb symbol pop up on the phone screen and itunes will recognize an iphone in recovery mode. Follow the prompts from there. Good luck! Had to try about 4-5 times before it worked

I was able to get my iPhone working by restoring it for less than 24 hours before it reverted back to the boot loop.  From there I contacted Apple via their Chat feature.  They tried to help, but couldn't and referred me to an Apple store.  I made an appointment at the Genius Bar, drove the 1 1/2 hours to the store and the geniuses there tried for about 20 minutes and told me my phone was dead and I could swap out for $299 if I wanted.  No thanks.  Now I've got a very expensive paper weight instead of a phone.  Using an old dumb phone until my Verizon contract is up for renewal.  Sure seems like Apple should be able to do something to help since my phone is otherwise in perfect condition except for the fact that their software update killed it.  I've been happy with Apple products up 'til now...

I have the same problem with my 5s.  I just tried 1.0.1 and seem to fixed.  Give it a try.
