Q: my iphone, ipad or imac are not connecting airport extreme with wifi

I am using AirPort Extreme for 2 years without any problem. But last week it started to stop connection via wifi to iPhone, iPad and MacBook. It is strange wireless camera is using the wifi.

I reset in three ways. Soft, hard and factory settings resets.

After I reset few minutes I can connect but after that it stops. I can see the my home network name and signal, but when I try to enter my password it says sometimes it is wrong or unable to connect.

I have some other router at my home (one of them is Apple Airport Express) and I can see both in Airport Utility App and shows that both are connected to internet. But I can not see when I near to this problamatic Airport Extreme.

I updated to latest version both. When I setup Extreme it is not showing any problem. So I assume it is OK. It is a little bit seems hot but all routers get hot when they are working I know.

I also changed IP6 but it did not help me.

Do you have any idea for this problem?

Thanks.

iPhone 6, iOS 9.3.3

    For the problematic AirPort Extreme:

    • Which exact model is it?
    • Is it being used as the main base station or to extend the other one?
    • For extending are they interconnected by wire or by wireless?
    • Where are they located in relation to each other ... same room, different room, or different floor? Regardless, roughly how far apart are they in feet or meters?

    Ok, so you:

    • Have an 802.11ac AirPort Extreme and an 802.11n AirPort Express base stations.
    • They are interconnected by Ethernet.
    • Both are providing a wireless network.

Are both base station configured for a roaming type network?  If so, and this network has been working for the past two years without any issues? Did this issue start after upgrading firmware on both base stations?

After I updated them I have problem for Extreme not for the Express model. It works fine.

That's great, but you didn't address any of my questions, other than it only appears to be an issue after you upgraded firmware on the Extreme.

Are both base stations configured for a roaming network?

Yes I have Extreme ac and Airplay n models as you Typed.

THey are interconnected by ethernet cable together

    both are providing wireless.

I Have a modem at my basement. I am using both as a router. I guess it means "roaming network"

Sorry but there is no guessing. It is either configured for a roaming network or it is not. I'm not trying to be demeaning; I'm just trying to understand how your network is currently configured.

You now mentioned a modem in the basement, so I have a few more questions before I can try to help:

    • What is the make & model of this modem?
    • Is the Extreme connected to this modem by Ethernet, and then, the Express is connected to the Extreme by Ethernet as well?

By "roaming" I am referring to the link that I provided in my second reply. In a roaming network:

    • All routers are interconnected by Ethernet.
    • Each AirPort base station must have a unique base station name.
    • Each base station, other than the "main" one must be in bridge mode.
    • Each base station must broadcast its own Wi-Fi network, but since they all use the same network name, wireless security type & password, wireless network clients will see them all as a "single" network.

... so, again, I ask is this the way your network is configured? Thanks for being patient with my questions.

THank you for your detailed explanations.

my modem is "Airties" and model is "5560" adsl2+vdsl2 modem

both Extreme and Express connected this modem by Ethernet.

so both of them broadcast and as you guess all of them use same network name and passwords.

Ok, I am trying to download a user guide for this modem. The only model close was a AirTies 5650. If this is what you actually have, it is not a simple modem, but a combination modem and wireless router.

That would mean that both your AirPort Extreme and Express base station need to be configured as bridges; are they?

If so, then we need to temporarily remove the Express by powering it off, and just leave the AirTies and Extreme running. In this configuration, can all of your wireless clients access either device?

YEs it is. It is modem and wireles router in order I use wifi at basement.

WHen I look at the configurations of Extreme and Airplay I see that "Router Mode" is Off (Bridge mode) in advance settings at DHCP and NAT.

    I Power off Express base.

I Am able to access main modem Airties

    but not to Extreme.

    Ok, thanks for the update.

At this point I suggest that you perform a "factory default" reset on the Extreme, and then, use the AirPort Utility to set it back up for a roaming network with the AirTies.

Once successfully set up, try connecting a wireless client to it see if it will connect. Does it? If not, then there may be something wrong with the base station itself.

    I made factory reset.

But Airport Utility is not showing Extreme base station either near Airties main modem or near to Extreme.

I Can only make setup from wifi settings in my iphone or ipad .

it shows that setup successful. But no connection.

I Ordered a new Extreme base station.

THank you for your time and helps.
