music app is playing the same 5 songs over and over

I have iPhone SE. I was playing music by hitting shuffle all. I stopped playing my music (never force quit the app) and returned to it today. I went to now playing and hit play to resume where I left off and the app played about 5 songs then repeated those same 5 songs on loop. I looked at my Up Next list and can see many songs on the list but if song 5 (of the looped songs) is playing then Up Next shows a new song (song 6) as the next song, but as soon as song 5 is over songs 1-5 reappear as the next 5 songs to be played and song 6 is pushed back. Hitting skip does not help. Repeat is off.

I just checked again and saw a different thing happen. I don't know why it is different now because I saw the exact scenario described above happen 2 or 3 times (I couldn't believe what I was seeing). But now it does the same thing except the 5 songs don't reappear in the up next list. Instead the up next song disappears - before the elusive song 6 was always there, waiting to be played, just out of reach. So now, every time I hit the skip button song 6 is removed from the up next list like normal but is never actually played - still only loops between the 5 songs. Song 7 becomes the new song 6 and the old song 6 is not moved to history, it just disappears.

It is the same end result but slightly different symptoms.

Regardless I unchecked shuffle and rechecked it and that seemed to fix the issue, but that means it will reshuffle all my songs and any songs I have already listened to will get shuffled back into the mix, which is annoying. I like to listen to my entire song list before rehearing a song.
