Q: The fonts I installed in Font Book are missing after 10.11.6 upgrade

I ran the recommended upgrade this morning to El Capitan 10.11.6 on my late 2011 MacBook Pro. A certain font was not available when I opened a document in Illustrator, so I opened Font Book to see why and found that the hundreds of fonts I have entered into Font Book over the last year or more are missing. I know the actual fonts are still in my font folders, but a many hours of work were involved in adding them to Font Book and organizing them into folders. Is all that work lost, or can I somehow access the preferences that contain that information? What a drag if not. Font Book does seem to still have all the folders I set up, they are just all empty and only the basic system fonts are loaded.

Unless I can access the old prefs I guess I would also have to install all my software again, to be sure that required fonts are loaded?

Help!

John

Use your  Time machine backup to  Restore.

Your font book plist is located via Finder>Go>Go to Folder,  copy and paste:

    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.FontBook.plist
