How do others handle the ridiculous group texts?

I can't stand it! It is the most ridiculous thing to have to put up with! I can't leave my phone off when I'm waiting for an important text. Got over 200 messages while on a 300 mile drive, I can't drive and keep checking all those ridiculous messages. I was waiting for 1 message, a simple yes or no but had to keep checking while driving! There is absolutely no way to get out of group texts without blocking those contacts.
