Q: What would be the best way to go about putting my family members on separate Apple IDs?

My grandparents, my mom, my sister, and myself are all on one Apple ID. We have had problems in the past about our devices getting mixed up and getting each other's text messages. That issue got resolved. However, my grandfather will sometimes click around and press something that causes issues on all of our devices.

That being said, I would like to put us all on separate Apple IDs so that way I can easily have MY phone, tablet, and computer connected. My mom can have her phone and tablet connected...etc.

What would be the best way to go about doing this? Setting up new Apple IDs for everyone (aside from myself, as it is under my email address) and then logging out of the Apple ID on the device and signing into the new one? Would this cause problems backing up? Would we have to reset the phone?

Thanks in advance!

It shouldn't be too bad once you get Family Sharing set up so things you used to use with one AppleID can be used between several.

Family Sharing - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT201060 - "Family Sharing makes it easy for up to six people in your family to share each other’s iTunes, iBooks, and App Store purchases without sharing accounts. Pay for family purchases with the same credit card and approve kids’ spending right from a parent’s device. And share photos, a family calendar, and more to help keep everyone connected."

Sharing purchased content with Family Sharing - http://support.apple.com/HT201085 - "With Family Sharing, family members get immediate access to each others’ music, movies, TV shows, books, and apps, and can download them to their own devices any time they like.*" "* Not all content and content types are available in all countries. To share purchased content, all family members must use the same iTunes Store country or region. Music, movies, TV shows, and books can be downloaded on up to 10 devices per account, five of which can be computers. Apps can be downloaded to any devices the family member owns or controls."

"If you want to keep some purchases private, you can choose to hide individual items." --> Hide and unhide iTunes Store, App Store, or iBooks Store purchases - https://support.apple.com/HT201322 -

If you don't see your family's shared content - http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5449  Also: http://apple.stackexchange.com/a/146077  - quit iTunes Store and App Store apps and start again.

We are not too worried about family sharing as we are not interested in the same content. Other than that, we shouldn't encounter any significant problems?
