Q: Garageband on New Mac

Hi,

I've recently purchased a new Macbook Pro which came with a free full version of Garageband. However, I restored a backup from my old Mac into the new and now the new version of Garageband is gone and replaced by my old version. I've tried updating it on the app store but it indicates that I have to pay for it. Is there a way to get the new version back without paying?

Thanks!

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X El Capitan (10.11.4)

If you sign into the Mac App Store with the same Apple ID you used to setup the new Mac you should be able to go to either the Purchases section of the Mac App Store and download GB or it should be listed as an update under the Updates section

Keep the old version of GarageBand  installed, even after you installed GarageBand 10 again from your Purchases history (Download your past purchases - Apple Support) GarageBand 10 can use the sounds and loops of GarageBand '11, even if it comes with different loops and sounds. If you uninstall GarageBand '11, your old projects may not play and loops and sounds may be missing.
