Is it possible to show a video within a video?

Is it possible to show two videos at the same time in FCPX? E.g. a 'screen within a screen'?

I'm trying to show action and someone explaining the action at the same time.

Instead of having a physical projector screen next to the person talking (which does not work because of the light flickering), I want to insert a cameo of a screen showing the action into the actual video, next to the person talking. Or have the person talking in a little 'TV-screen' inset in the main action part of the movie.

Is this possible; and if so, how?

VIN, MacBook Pro (13-inch Mid 2010), OS X El Capitan (10.11.6)

Yes.

Place one above the over and make the top one smaller.

If FCPX and its 'manual' approach is too difficult for you, iMovie offers a canned Pic-inPic effect …

As to the rest, FCPX allows much more elaborated screen layouts, such as '3D' distortion, animated pic-in-pic, cropped pictures, 2/several pic-in-pics etc etc etc... :

Just had a need to try something like this on a project and it's good to know this is possible.

Not particularly pleased, though, to read that iMovie has this capability too, and it's even easier!

It seems there are several things that iMovie can do that are useful. Don't these two groups talk to eachother???

Karsten: I have a question.

What is the "2/several pic-in-pics"?

Is the "2/ ... " a typo, or is it something else?

translates as:

you can create a pic-in-pic, or, as demoed in my attached frame, two pics-in-pic, or 3,4,5, … several pics-in-pic ...

Yes, got it.

Really like your screen shot / picture.

It has been said that a picture is worth a thousand words.

I've never done this before so it'll be an interesting learning experience.

This will be for part of a "how to" video.
