Q: Safari 9.1.2  partial page loading and freezes

Recently I've begun getting all kinds of really long load times and freezes on well established websites that I know are up and running.  I'll sometimes get a partial page and have to "X" stop and reload.  Sometimes it just hangs there completely blank.   My ISP Speeds are 50MBPS+ Down.

I've tried quitting, restarting, and also turning off all extensions.  The old "reset Safari" option is gone and not sure what else to look at.
Attached is a sample of a page that only partially loaded.  This is happening frequently now.

Safari/other browsers – Website not loading

Try another browser as a test.

    Firefox

    Opera Browser

    SeaMonkey

Safari/Preferences/Advanced - enable the Develop menu, then go there and Empty Caches. Quit/reopen Safari and test. Then try Safari/History/Show History and delete all history items.  Quit/reopen Safari and test. You can also try try Safari/Clear History…. The down side is it clears all cookies. Doing this may cause some sites to no longer recognize your computer as one that has visited the web site. Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder.  Select Library./Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db and move it to the trash.

Go to Safari Preferences/Extensions and turn all extensions off. Test. If okay, turn the extensions on one by one until you figure out what extension is causing the problem.

Thanks Eric.  Yes, I tried other browsers - Opera was sluggish too but slightly better - Firefox was snappier.  Strange that some sites would load quickly while others would hang or only partially load.  I had already gone develop/empty caches - no help.  I'll try stripping it down and trashing more items.  It all seemed to start a couple of days ago after either the latest System update - or some Adobe software.  :-/

You are welcome. If the above doesn't fix the problem, try a restart.

Do a backup, using either Time Machine or a cloning program, to ensure files/data can be recovered. Two backups are better than one.

Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work. The intent is to see if it is specific to one account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.

Isolating an issue by using another user account

If the problem is still there, try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account.  Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up after waiting 10 seconds. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.

Thanks again Eric!  Still working on this.  I have a Time Machine backup and just completed a current update of a Bootable Chronosync backup on another HDD this AM. Booting into an empty Admin user account (for troubleshooting) - resulted in the same problem.  I may try to boot to the Chronosync HDD and see if there is any difference.  This iMac recently had the 3TB Fusion drive replaced by Apple under a replacement program.

Safe mode - 1st attempt froze 80% of the way into rebooting.  2nd attempt got through but displayed some running back horizontal lines moving up the screen during the loading time.  Logging into my normal account - same problem.

As far as uninstalling/reinstalling programs and rebooting each time one by one - that's not really practical as I have approx. 160 programs installed and another 120 or so unused ones in a secondary folder.  It's possible recent updates to Java and Flash have things messed up too.

Is there a way to JUST reinstall Safari (only)?

I might just have to reinstall OSX.  (without deleting/erasing User data)

Worst case scenario - a clean install.

You are welcome. Try running the combo update. It installs all previous updates plus the new one, which can replace any files that may have become corrupted.

    10.11.6 combo update

Try running this program and then copy and paste the output in a reply. The program was created by Etresoft, a frequent contributor.  Please use copy and paste as screen shots can be hard to read. On the screen with Options, please open Options and check the bottom 2 boxes before running. Click “Share Report” button in the toolbar, select “Copy to Clipboard” and then paste into a reply. This will show what is running on your computer. No personal information is shown.

Thanks for this - sorry I drifted away from the discussion - for whatever reason the issues mostly seemed to resolve.  At one point I was even thinking about replacing the router - but tried a 100' CAT6 cable and had the same problems.  Then one day it all seemed to stop misbehaving - without explanation.

Then yesterday another unrelated problem popped up - I couldn't open any file on the desktop - saying I didn't have the permission(s).  O went to bed, without restarting and this morning that's resolved too!  :-/    I did restart and run Disk Utility this morning regardless.  I've not reinstalled the combo update but that's probably my next step if things keep acting strange.  Here's the Ertrecheck report though anyway - http://pastebin.com/bPuXayVM

You are welcome. Make sure your Wacom software is up to date. It has been causing problems for some people. I hope all continues to work okay.
