Q: How do you send a text message from an iPad to an android user?

Can someone please inform me if and how I can send and receive messages from my ipad to an android phone user? I used to be able to do this, but since three months ago am no longer able. Thanks!

  1. On your iPhone, go to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive. Add a check to both your phone number and email address. Then go to Settings > Messages > Text Message Forwarding and enable the device or devices that you want to forward messages to.

    An iPad cannot natively send SMS nor MMS text messages, as both of those formats require a cellular service provider's voice channel connection.  Since an iPad is incapable of connecting to any carriers voice service, it cannot send SMS texts.

     

    If you have an iPhone, you can use iOS's continuity feature to link your iPad to your iPhone to enable the iPad to send and receive SMS texts via the iPhone's native cellular service messaging - see Use Continuity to connect your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Mac - Apple Support

     

    If you do not have an iPhone, then you will need to investigate using some form of internet messaging service that your Android friends also use or can/will use (as iMessage, Apple's free internet messaging service, is only available for Apple devices), or use SMS text email gateways (each carrier has a specific messaging gateway, to allow sending of SMS texts as emails).
