Q: Mac mini (Late 2012) ethernet stopped working

I recently moved and after setting up in the new place, the ethernet appeared to stop working on my Mac mini.

When I connect the ethernet from my switch to the mini, the lights on the switch flash briefly every 3 seconds and the mini says "the computer does not seem to be connected to a DSL or cable modem, or to an Ethernet network."

When I move the same ethernet cable over to the Apple TV, the TV works fine, so I know the cable is working -- plus I used a cable tester on it and it passed that as well.

I've tried rebooting, and removing and replacing the Ethernet interface from Network preferences and get the same error.

I really hope the port hasn't failed and am hoping others can give me some other things I can try, or some reset processes that might revive the port.

Thanks!

Mac mini, OS X El Capitan (10.11.5), (Late 2012)

Have you tried connecting the Mini's Ethernet port directly to the cable modem? If it is then working you need to connect the modem to your router. Connect the Mini directly to the router's LAN port. Do you have Ethernet? If so, then connect the hub/switch to the same LAN port on the router and connect the Mini to a port on the switch. If it no longer works then there is a problem with the switch or the cable between the switch and the router.

I don't have a cable modem. I have fiber, so ethernet is coming directly into the house into the router. From the router, it goes to the switch and then to the mini. As everything else connected to the switch is working fine, and I tested the cable from the switch to the mini on my Apple TV, I'm not sure how a direct connection would be any different.

At most I could connect the mini directly to the router, but that would be difficult as the router is in the basement.
