Q: Replacement battery causing error-29 during updates
Hello,
Several months ago, my original iPhone 4S battery started dying before it was even lunch time, so I purchased a replacement off of eBay. The two batteries look identical, have the exact same writing and numbers on them, in an identical font. Side by side, you can not tell them apart.
I swapped out the original for the new one, and a few days later, Apple released an iOS update. I went ahead and let iTunes update my iPhone software, and several times in a row, it would reach the final stages of the update, then it would stop and present me with an error. I could not get it to update, even after restoring the phone to factory defaults.
Bewildered, and with nothing else to try (besides taking it in for service), I tried switching the batteries again, and much to my surprise, the update went through on the original battery without a hitch.
Months passed, and I forgot ever having this problem. Until about a 30 minutes ago. My iPhone told me there was an update available (9.3.3) and without remembering my previous problem, I allowed it to update. When it stopped near the end of the update and gave me error-29, I was like 'Oh, yeah...'
So again, I went through the process of swapping the newer battery out for the original, and again, the update went through, no problem.
Has anyone ever experienced this? Why does this new battery prevent me from updating my iOS?
