macbook pro freezes when mouse stops

I am encountering a very strange issue with my Macbook Pro 13" Retina display. When I login the system will freeze once I stop moving the mouse. If I continously move the mouse the system works, but if I stop moving it for about 2-3 seconds, the whole system freezes and I have to force it off using the power button. I've troubleshooted it all the way down to a clean install of El Capitan 10.11.6 but even after the clean install it still does the same thing. Of course it looks like a HW issue but just wanted to see if any else has had this issue and if there was a solution which was not related to HW.

ok I finally fixed mine! 1 month of not working!
i have Macbook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015) Running 10.12.6

same problems, when I boot up if i stopped moving my mouse for more than a few seconds it would completely freeze and would require a hard reboot. Tried updating OS. didnt do anything. the temporary fix was to play a video in the background before the computer froze. once the video was playing it would work for a bit but have random black out screens.

found one post that said something about a possible logical board problem and one person that fixed it by a loose cable inside.

I do remember dropping it right before it had some trouble.

just opened up the computer today and noticed a bunch of dust in the fans so i air dusted everything and looked around for any loose connections but everything looked good. I put it back together and when I booted it up it worked perfectly again.!! no idea if it was the dust or something else but pretty much the only thing i did was the air dusting.

Hope it helps!

It would help more if you listed what you tried already, we can't look into your mind. But run Diagnostics for a start.

Apple diagnostics is not as comprehensive as the proprietary software they use at the Apple Store, but it may pick up something. Depending on the age of your system, you will use one or the other.

Thanks, that helps.

Let's rule out software. Please download and run EtreCheck, (if you can keep you Mac running for about 2 minutes.) It is a diagnostic tool that's very useful to us in finding problems. Also it will give us further specs on your Mac. After it runs post the log file here. It will contain no personal information.

The log looks great! It doesn't look like software. And we can skip DiskUtility, First Aid. You've been there, done that.

At this point I'd suggest taking your MBP into to an Apple Store and having them run a free diagnostic. Make an appointment with an Apple Genius, who can run further diagnostics and pin point what's wrong.
