Q: Using one remote or the remote app with two Apple TVs?

1. Can one AppleTV remote, either the newest one or a last generation one be used with two different AppleTVs (one is the newest one and one is the older generation)?

2. Can an iPhone Remote APP be used with two different Apple TVs?

Thanks.

    1. Not easily. There's no way to select the device to control, you end up controlling both. You could get a programmable remote and train it to control them as different devices, though this would require some trickery.

    2. Definitely. The Remote app offers a grid of all the ATVs it knows, and you select the one to control. It has the further advantage of a keyboard for searches, passwords, etc. You do need a remote to pair it with each ATV.

Only the new Apple TV (4th gen) can be controlled by the Siri Remote, but all Apple TV's can be controlled by either the silver or (older) white remote and yes they can control more than one Apple TV at the same time (assuming line of site) or independently if they are in different rooms.

Yes the remote app can be used with multiple Apple TV's, I use mine with 7 Apple TV's.

WIth the previous generation remote I believe you can control different Apple TVs with the remote.

sometimes I use the remote to control my MacBook Pro when I am using iTunes.

On the app you can control multiple Apple TVs.

Just wanted to add some detail to this answer that was sorely lacking and it took me a while to figure out. In order to setup multiple ATVs on your remote app, you will need to first turn off 2-step authentication for your iCloud account. You can google how to do this and find plenty of info. but that was my problem. So if you're trying to add a second Apple TV and you're having trouble once it pops up the "allow/don't allow" authentication process, you need to go to appleid.apple.com and sign in to turn 2-step authentication off - at least while adding your second Apple TV - in order for it to work.
