iPhone 3 16GB only responding when first plugged in or unplugged

I was using my fiancé old iPhone 3 to watch our dogs while we are working throughout the day through an app called Presence. It was been working fine until this week. I had left the phone plugged in with the app running when one day I couldn't connect to the phone. Now the phone is asking for a passcode but does not even show numbers when you press them. I tried to restore the phone via iTunes but it didn't work. The phone is not responsive to a hard start either.

Any suggestions?

Hello heatherashley01,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. It's my understanding your iPhone is no longer responding and your unable to restore. I know how important it is to be able to keep an eye on dogs. I am happy to help.
It sounds like you've done a great job trying to resolve this so far. Since you were unable to restore the next option would be to force the phone into recovery mode and try to restore again. Please follow the steps in the link below:
If you can't update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
Have a wonderful day!
