Check System Preferences > General > Default Browser
Disable Extensions and test and choose Google as the search engine
Safari > Preferences > Extensions
Select and disable all extensions and test.
Enable Extensions one by one and test.
To uninstall any extension, select it and click the “Uninstall” button.
Thanks sberman. My default browser is set as google chrome, which is why I can't work out why it keeps changing??
Dominic23, I looked where you suggested and there don't seem to be any extensions at all. It is just so strange!! Thank you for your suggestion though.
Delete com.apple.Safari.plist file and test.
Empty the Trash.
Quit all applications.
Hold the option key down and click the "Go" menu in the Finder menu bar.
Select "Library" from the drop down.
Library > Preferences > com.apple.Safari.plist
Right click on it and select "Move it to Trash".
Close the Finder window.
Restart. Relaunch Safari.
If this doesn’t help, “Put Back” the com.apple.Safari.plist
Right click on the Trash icon in the Dock and select “Open”.
Right click on the com.apple.Safari.plist and select “Put Back”.
Clarification question - is Google your default browser or your default search engine? There is no Yahoo browser, but there is a Yahoo search engine. You should be able to set the default search engine within the browser.
Oh, I think that might have been it. Thank you Eric. The search engine wasn't set as either google or yahoo but some random tech search. I have reset it to google and deleted the yahoo search engine altogether and it seems to have worked. Yay.
Thanks
You are welcome.
