Q: iPad Air 2 128GB 9.3.3 browsing unusable

I have an iPad Air 2 with 128GB Wi-Fi, I only use it to browse the internet.

I do not watch videos, no books, no music, I never login to the apple products websites.

Hardly load any apps at all. Never take pictures. Just browse using first Safari, then installed Chrome.

Use a AC3200 Netgear router and 200mb service from cable company.

After updating the OS to 9.3.3 websites now do not load, or load partially.

Sometimes I get all the advertising, but not the content.

I switched from 5ghz to 2.4ghz radios on the router.

Tried doing the reset by holding round button and power button at same time, did this 3 times.

Turned off all the refresh in background switches I could find.

Of course, closed every single open page on the two browsers and started from scratch.

Tried turning off and then back on wifi.

Most pages just have a spinning thing on the tab, the spinning pinwheel where it shows downloading in top left.

And the bar that I think is supposed to show progress, just stops moving.

Sometimes, if I press X, then do a reload the page snaps in like I would expect.

I also notice the touch sensitivity is miserable poor after the update.

Touching buttons on the few pages that will load produces nothing, but I cannot tell if it

is the sensitivity (screen) or the website just not responding.

All together the problems make this unusable.

Very frustrating, I was actually doing fine, I needed nothing from this upgrade, now it is

actually unusable.

Sitting here at my Windows 10 PC, which surprisingly is most dependable thing I own.

The Windows 10 PC and all the other devices connected to router are streaming as expected

and performance is not degraded. Only having problems on iPad Air 2 with iOs 9.3.3

I am likely going to downgrade the OS, if I can figure out how to get back to 8.4 I will go there.

Spent the last 5 hours today struggling with this Ipad, the iPhone 6 plus seemed to do a little better.

But I don't use the phone for browsing at all, just for text and email, nothing else.

If anyone has had problems browsing after updating I would like to know that I am not alone.

If you smart people have some suggestions that are not difficult to do, please suggest them.

This iPad has never been connected to a PC before, never synced in any way.

So I am not sure I would knw how to use iTunes to fix the iPad.

Overall , real disappointed right now (In Apple, and the whole game of updating).

Although now that I was forced back to my Windows PC, it is rather nice to have something dependable.

    Hello random-user-name,

Thank you for using the Apple Support Communities. I know having an issue with browsing the internet on your iPad is not what you expect. Based on what you stated, it seems you may be experiencing some network or software issues on your iPad. It sounds like you have done some good troubleshooting steps already, like force restarting your iPad and switching between 2.4 GHz Radio Mode and 5 GHz Radio Mode on your Wi-Fi router, so that helps. Good news is I have some suggestions to narrow down and resolve your issues.

    1. First, I suggest you make a backup of your personal data on your iPad. Since you mention you don’t have much on the iPad except a couple of apps, backing up to iCloud should work, but read this article to see how iTunes and iCloud backup work to see what is best for your situation:

How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch
Import photos and videos from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

    2. Try forgetting and rejoining the network, by tapping Settings > Wi-Fi and locate the Wi-Fi network you’re connected to (a blue check mark will be next to its name). Tap the info icon, then “Forget this Network” and confirm. Go back to Settings > Wi-Fi and re-connect to the desired network and test your issue again.

    3. If you haven’t already, power cycle the Wi-Fi router and/or modem off and back on. Also, if you know how to adjust your Wi-Fi router settings, here are the recommended settings to get the best performance from your iOS device:

Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points

I recently had some Wi-Fi issues myself, and adjusting the channel to Auto and adjusting the SSID to a unique name as that article suggests helped my situation.

    4. If you haven’t already, try your iPad with a different, known good Wi-Fi network, like a trusted public Wi-Fi, family or friend’s personal network. This can help narrow your issue down as well.

    Cheers!

Have you tried clearing your history under Settings>Safari? There's a similar option for Chrome in History under its ... menu at the right hand side.

I got ready to do a full reset (we sometimes call them hard resets because they set all of it to factory defaults, erasing all settings).

When I went to reset it had a Reset All Settings, and one labeled Erase All Content and Settings.

I chose Reset All settings and had to reconnect to wifi and a few other things.

This did provide some improvements. And there are still some side effects and some things untested.

THANK YOU FOR HELPING ME AND ANSWERING.
