Q: I can't minimise Windows and I can't switch to Mac Mail from another application

A couple of days ago, on my Mac Mini, I found I could not minimise Windows (such as Safari) as the yellow button is greyed out, as is the Minimise command in the Window drop down, nor can I switch from an application to Mac Mail.  I have to shut down all my Applications to be able to access the Mac Mail.  It feels like a bug of some sort to me.  I have run my virus scanner etc and nothing has changed.  Any ideas on how to fix this situation?  It is, understandably, starting to drive me crazy.

Mac mini, OS X El Capitan (10.11.6)

Since Virus Scanning is not needed on a Mac.

Maybe it's your virus scanning that's giving you problems.

Use etrecheck from etrecheck.com and see what is running and post the result here.

Someone might be able to help.
