Why does my earphones/earplugs work in any other phone than mine?

Yesterday, as I was watching youtube, my earphones suddenly made a loud static noise which frightened me and I threw them off. After that my earphones/earplugs works in any other phone than mine. What is wrong with my phone and is there anything I can do to repair this myself?
