Hello,

Sorry to hear about your issue. As has been stated by other posters, the Apple support forums are a community effort, with answers coming from other Apple customers that are sharing their expertise and suggestions. If you have a concern or suggestion about Apple's products, I recommend that you visit http://www.apple.com/feedback/

All that being said, your device is well outside of the standard warranty, and even an AppleCare warranty. Had your device had a battery swelling issue within your first year of ownership, Apple would have likely swapped your phone for a refurbished one, but that is not the case. Please understand that Apple offering you repairs at a cost has nothing to do with how the damage occurred. Damage from user neglect, or damage that occurs spontaneously is all treated the same once a device is out of warranty.

Replacing the battery and the screen is the best option left to you if you want to restore the functionality and look of your iPhone 5s. Apple does not presently sell refurbished iPhones, and the iPhone 5s was discontinued as of March 21st, so you have no means of acquiring an in-warranty iPhone 5s. You could turn to the second-hand market, but caveat emptor applies. If you are like me and are inclined to use a smaller handset, I recommend the iPhone SE as your next device. The iPhone SE is an apt successor, retaining the fantastic form factor of the iPhone 5s, but including the powerful processors and components found in the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus.

Best of luck to you.
