Q: Ipad won't go past black page with apple

I don't know how to find info about the model for you because I can't turn it on.  I have repeatedly tried to charge my ipad.  Pressing the Home button and the turn off button, (obviously very sophisticated knowledge of technology) and the apple appears.  After a few minutes, the screen goes black.  I have tried two different chargers and cords.  I tried charging it using an outlet and through my laptop. I searched for info on solving this problem and it said to reset.  There was a video but I couldn't follow the directions.  Any suggestions?
