Q: Sharing iTunes Match & Baffled

I have my AppleID and the wee wife has hers.

Our iTunes library is in Users/Shared on my MacPro El Capitan 10.11.4

I subscribed to iTunes Match and it works fine on both my MacPro and my iPhone 5.

I tried to subscribe her so she can use it on her iPad MD510LL/A [9.3.3 (13G34)] and her iPhone 5 [same version as iPad] (she's not interested in using it via her user account on my MacPro), referencing of course the Users/Shared iTunes library, and she got locked out of Match for 90 days, which have now just expired. Terrified of locking her out for another 90 days, think I'd be divorced before that was up!

Can anyone tell me how to achieve both of us having iTunes Match accessibility from this same Users/Shared library on my MacPro? Obviously we're prepared to each pay the $25 annual sub. If it isn't possible tell me!

Thanks in advance to anyone unclueless.

You can only have one Apple ID authorised to use iTunes match. As you have already found out that using another Apple ID results in a 90 day lockout. At present the only way for both of you to access iTunes match is to use the one Apple ID. Read the following support documents.

Authorize your computer in iTunes - Apple Support

View and remove associated devices in iTunes - Apple Support

You could subscribe to the family sharing provided with an Apple Music monthly subscription but this is considerably more expensive.

Set up Family Sharing - Apple Support

There are changes to how Apple Music works being made http://www.loopinsight.com/2016/07/18/apple-begins-rolling-out-itunes-match-with -audio-fingerprint-to-apple-music-subscr… It would appear that iTunes Match will no longer be required if you have an Apple Music subscription. This may overcome your current problems.

Jim, thanks very much and so speedy!

OK, if she takes the plunge and subscribes to Apple Music - $120 a year by the looks of it - can she "connect" to our iTunes music library in Users/Shared on my MacPro? As I understand it all she has to do is identify our library location at the outset and the system automatically 'uploads?' all our music to the iCloud, from where she can see our artists/albums/songs/ listings? I realize Apple music offers a lot more than just that [Match-type] functionality, but that is essentially all she wants to achieve. Without me having to leave my MacPro on 24/7!

Feel we may be getting there.....

    Hi,

I believe that you could still encounter the lock out problem should your wife subscribe to Apple Music. I think that your solution is to get Apple music with family sharing - this would cost more.

    Thanks again Jim,

I went with your suggestion - started setting up Family Sharing via my Mac, got as far as validating a payment method. I already use PayPal to pay for all my iTunes purchases, so I selected PayPal for the Family Sharing but Apple keeps asking me to validate again and again (can't get past that step). Then I noticed an email from PayPal saying I have cancelled an existing payment agreement with PayPal!

Ah well, there just seem to many hoops to jump through so I guess I'll just have to tell the wife that it can't be done.
