It depends on the questions/answers throughout that process (it is convoluted) to find out if a Genius Bar appt. will be offered - the easiest is to download the Apple store app (not the app store) onto your device and do it from there. Will take a few seconds.

The Apple Store app doesn't let you make a Genius Bar appt anymore.

Hmmm, did you actually try it? I am curious where you got that information; this screenshot is from my test trying to make an appointment at my chosen store for today (this was done on my iPad Pro 5 minutes ago):

FYI, this is the Apple store app - not the app store app.

You will need to tell the entire story of your experience - in detail, step-by-step, with the "failure" error message verbatim

The new Apple Store App removed the option to make an appointment, at least I can't find it. Anybody?

You can still do it - it's just more frustrating; this is how I got here:

Clicked on Apple store app, got a "what can we help you with".

    Clicked on Contact Apple Support.

    Chose Mac Desktops.

    Chose Hardware issues.

    Chose Display issue.

    Chose Bring in for Repair.

    Entered my zip code.

    Chose my desired store.

Input my Apple ID and password.

Got the screen with the available Genius Bar appointments for the coming week.

I just replicated your choices as best I could via the web, starting with Contact Apple Support

The steps were slightly different, but pretty close to the same number of steps - in somewhat different order

After zip code, I was presented with the "map" page with stores on the left.

The store items had "first available time" at the bottom of the item

Click that and a popup appears over the map with the TIME as the "hot" choice

I think it detected that I was logged into ASC as it did not prompt me for my Apple ID credentials

It is clear that BOTH have undergone a change or three

I would assume the behavior would be different on iOS vs. a Windows computer using the online option. I did it on an iPad since that was what was being asked about (or the OP would not be able to replicate it on his/her iPad).

My reading of your post was that the App was not as straightforward as it used to be... true?

If your several steps are a departure from what I understood was in the past possibly as simple as:

    • open app
    • choose Genius Bar
    • pick a time

    then it seems so.

The poster to which you replied said they had trouble merely finding the function - which you found in a much more obscure place - almost mirroring an online experience (which has nothing to do with computer OS or browser of choice, BTW)

Would you say that there has indeed been some changes made in the App?

There certainly HAS been in the online experience - for the better I might add.

What you listed there actually exits the app and goes to the web. The app removed the ability to schedule a Genius Bar appt in the app itself. You might as well just start in the web.
