Q: Connecting an Ipod to a laptop other than by USB cable

I want to be able to play music off my IPOD on ITUNES on my laptop, but find it difficult, as my IPOD often disconnects from my laptop when I move or I move the laptop (due to the USB cable disconnecting). I want a way that allows me to connect my IPOD to my computer without the use of a USB cable - so that I can play whatever is on it on my computer comfortably and without the risk of disconnection and also the possibility of loosing the files on my IPOD if it does disconnect. Any help?

Why not get a speaker dock for listening to the music? Playing your iPod through the computer can only be necessary if the iPod is the only device that hold all of the media. If they were on your computer then you wouldn't have to use the iPod. See Recover media from an iPod if required. If your library is too big for the laptop then recover it to an external drive. iTunes can be a bit temperamental with NAS storage, but if you really don't like cables then NAS might be the way to go.

Available solutions might depend upon which end (iPod or computer) your disconnection is occurring on.

That being said, there are only two other ways to output audio from an iPod:

    1. The headphone jack

    2. An FM transmitter (plugged into the iPod)

For various reasons, neither would be practical in your case.

As turingtest2 provided a decent solution, allow me to provide another... buy a set of computer speakers and plug them into the iPod's headphone jack. Walmart has a set of Logitech speakers I got for about $12 that I use for my laptop's audio... surprisingly good audio quality. And if your iPod has EQ presets, you should be able to find a preset to your liking (I use the "R&B" preset; with the enhanced lows and crisper highs, it sounds more "live" than other presets).
