I just got a pop-up window on Safari advertising a product-'Drive Cleaner', that is 'recommended' according to the Safari window for use in cleaning up my harddrive..
Is this just an advertising promo or something that is needed on my Mac...?
No such product is required. It was probably a pop-up advertisement. You can prevent most such pop-up ads from appearing by selecting "Block pop-up windows" in the Safari > Preferences > Security tab. Pressing Command-K will also have the same effect.
I am resurrecting this thread because I am having the same problem, but it is more than just an annoying pop-up. I already have pop-up blocking turned on. It defeats that. I had this problem with my windows computer at work and it was popping up many times a day. My IP people had to wipe out and rebuild the computer after nothing else would get it out. It would pop up even when I didn't have internet explorer running.
Now it has started on my mac at home and pops up under Safari (I wonder if it migrated by my filing sharing between the two). It is clearly something that is now embedded in my computer. Has anyone else had this and successfully gotten rid of it?
And of course it is advertising a Windows product!
