I understand that your iPhone is showing that it should be connected to iTunes, but you are unable to restore it. I know it's important to have a device that we rely on so much to be working, so I'm happy to provide some direction to help.
To start, ensure that iTunes on your computer is completely up to date. You can see how to do that here:
Get the latest version of iTunes - Apple Support
If you don't have iTunes installed on your computer, download the latest version.
Mac
- Open iTunes.
- From the menu bar at the top of your computer screen, choose iTunes > Check for Updates.
- Follow the prompts to install the latest version.
Windows
- Open iTunes.
- From the menu bar at the top of the iTunes window, choose Help > Check for Updates. Learn what to do if you can’t see the menu bar.
- Follow the prompts to install the latest version.
Once iTunes is up to date, follow the steps here to put your iPhone back into recovery mode, and restore it:
If you can't update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
It's important to note this part of that article when waiting on long download times:
If the download takes more than 15 minutes and your device exits recovery mode, you'll need to repeat these steps and choose Restore instead of Update when you get back to this step.
Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities, cheers!
