I recommend using DFU (Device Firmware Update) mode to restore your device.

To put the iPhone into DFU or recovery mode:

1. Power down your iPhone by holding the Sleep/Wake button until you are prompted to "Slide to Power Off".

2. Connect your iPhone to your Mac or PC.

3. Open iTunes.

4. Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for 10 seconds*.

5. After 10 seconds* have passed, release the Sleep/Wake button. Continue holding the home button until a message appears in iTunes, telling you that it has detected an iPhone in recovery mode;

"iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. You must restore this iPhone before it can be used with iTunes".

6. Click okay and iTunes will restore your iPhone.

* = Note that if you see the Apple Logo during steps 4 and 5, then you have held the buttons for too long and will have to start over.

Best of luck to you
