Aug 1, 2016 7:03 AM in response to kentpotsby Niel,Restart from a Mac OS X install DVD, external drive, or Apple's Internet Recovery system(if it's available on that Mac), open the Disk Utility, and see if the internal drive appears.
If it does, try repairing it.
If not, the drive is probably dead; in this case, any data on it can only be recovered by a service such as DriveSavers.
