Q: How to put "counting" effect as a video in the background of playing another video WITHOUT it having covering the original video?

If you got confused from what I said, I'm basically saying that I put the color of the counting up text as white, but the color of white will cover up the another video I am playing...is there no "transparent" color? Thanks!!

How is this "counting" created? Using a FCP X generator? Or is it a separate video you created?

If it is a separate video, you need to make its background transparent, and it must be exported in a codec that supports alpha channel - that would be ProRes 4444.

Reading this again, I believe you mean the counting generator in FCP X.

I realize that when choosing the text color there is no option to set its opacity.

I see two solutions to this:

    1) In the inspector, with the generator selected, click the Video tab. Under Compositing, change its opacity; or try it with different blend modes instead of "normal"

    2) If you have Motion, control-click the generator in the generators browser and choose "Open a copy in Motion". In Motion, under "Blending", publish the Opacity parameter.

Thanks for the quick reply and sorry that I didn't provide enough information..."Counting" is part of "Generators" in Final Cut Pro X. By the way, it's Version 10.2.3.

I do not have motion, I'll try to do those two things that you told me to do and get back to you. Thanks for the help!

Edit: It worked! I can make my video in peace now. Thank you so much!
