Q: mac airport utility only showing the 1st extreme

the airport utility on my mac only shows the first airport extreme, not the 2nd one connected by ethernet to extend the range. all 4 iOS devices see both.

Is the AirPort Extreme used to extend the wireless network configured to "create a wireless network" or "extend a wireless network?"

Which exact models are each of the base stations? Which version of OS X is your iMac running and version(s) of iOS for the iOS devices?

the 2nd is used to "extend" the network. all iOS devices and mac have the most recent updates. both extremes are model A1521. when i originally set this up, they both showed up on the mac and all iOS devices.
