Aug 1, 2016 6:29 PM in response to mrportnoyby Allan Jones,OS 10.6 predates the time when "About this Mac" began telling us the full model name. That started with OS 10.7;
With 10.6 there are several ways to find the the model name indirectly. Probably the easiest and most direct is to download this free utility:
It is safe and developed by one of our most respected members here. Although designed to detect known troublemakers and display them without revealing any personal information about you or your computer, the first thing it shows is a full description of your computer and its sub-model, plus info about RAM and storage usage that can be helpful to us in recommending an upgrade path. Let it run and, when you see the results in Etrecheck's window, press the "Copy report to clipboard" button. Then return here and paste that into a reply to your own question. With that we can probably give you and upgrade recommendation you without posting any other "need more info" questions from the Community
Also the iMacs this forum covers (1998-2005) cannot run OS 10.6 so we will probably need to get you moved to a more active forum
