Q: Security Update 2016-004 - Active Directory connection broken
Some details on the setup:
Mac Mini (running Server app)
OSX 10.10.5
Bound to Active Directory on a Windows 2008 Server (Standard Ed).
Ive been using this setup for about 6 months and all has been well. Using the Directory Utility, I attempted to connect to my domain controller. Selecting the "in node" drop down under the editor allows me to select:
\Active Directory\<mydomain>
I would get a message that the domain controller could not be contacted.
I tried to unbind the Mac from the domain, it also said it could not contact the domain controller and asked it I wanted to Force Unbind. That sounded scary so I decided to restore to a previous date.
Looking at my Windows server, it appeared that the last time it was successfully accessed was July 27th.
After looking at the update history on the mac, I noticed the security update applied.
So, i restored to July 26th and all is working again.
I installed the update again and it broke the connection again. Something in this update seems to break the AD connection I have established.
Would upgrading to The Captain (10.11.x) bypass this issue or would it be bundled in the upgrade? I only use this mac for the Server app and have very little else going on for this machine.
Also, I havent been able to find the details on this update. It keeps pointing me here: Apple security updates - Apple Support but the most recent date shown is July 18th.
All that to ask, will The Captain break my Server app like the security update did?
Mac mini, Mac OS X (10.0.x)
