photo's in aperture lost

My wife's iMAC was destroyed in tornado. Insurance company paid someone to copy files on hard drive to a portable HD. I cannot find her photo's which were located in Aperture Library. We find the pictures which were on her desk top. Any ideas of where these can be found?
