Refurbished or New iPhone 6s?

I pre-ordered the Apple iPhone 6s (Silver, 64GB) once it was available for pre-order in the Netherlands, start of October 2015. In March 2016, the iPhone just turned off and did not show any sign of life, it was gone. It wasn't because of any damage I did to it, but because of an internal defect (most likely hardware). KPN, my provider, took the iPhone 6s and sent it to Apple in the United States of America (KPN gave me an iPhone 4 with only 8GB as a temporary replacement).

After 2 weeks, I went to KPN to get my 'new' iPhone 6s, which they handed over to me. I received the iPhone in a small cardboard box with no actual text on it like it says on the original iPhone 6s boxes. And of course there were no accessories in the box, as I still had the original ones.

When I got home, I immediately pulled out the iPhone (with care, duh) and put on a silicone case and tempered glass screen. After a few days, I noticed some pixels in the top left corner have a slightly different color. This is only visible when bright colors (white, yellow, 'cream') show up on the display. I don't really worry about the display. I do worry, however, about it being a new or refurbished iPhone 6s.

Also, what can I do if it is a refurbished iPhone 6s (I'm not OK with that)? What can I do about the tiny pixel defects in the top left corner of the display, will Apple cover the costs if I'm deciding to repair it?

I have made a screenshot of my Service and Support Coverage, which Apple's website based on my serial number. The digits of my serial number have been left unblurred for you to find any information that might help you to help me out. 🙂

Apple will in almost all cases replace an under warranty iPhone with a refurbished unit. Also it's very unlikely they send the iPhone back to the U.S, since their would be no matching iPhones for Dutch carriers in the U.S. They more than likely sent it to the Dutch Apple representative, and had it replaced there with a model for your carrier.

You may not be o.k with it, but it's their warranty policy.

Refurbished units will come in a non-descript box as you describe.

If there is still an issue with the replacement, it carries the remainder of the warranty on the replaced unit or 90 days whichever is longer.

So you need to return to your carrier and have them take a look at the replacement iPhone, and have it replaced again if necessary.

I am in the US and warranties vary by country. However replacement phones in the US can be new or refurbished at Apple's discretion, that is the warranty here. I would not worry about refurbished devices as they are thoroughly tested. I would worry about your defective pixels and would get that taken care of, likely another replacement. Your warranty status above says Oct 27, 2016 so you should be covered.

Hi Hod, the packaging does not affect the warranty. New ones come in the white boxes, replacements come with no accessories in a brown box. There is no limit to the times the phone can be replaced if they continue to be defective but this is unlikely. I had one iPhone replaced for a bad wifi chip, the replacement lasted one day due to a faulty display, took it back and got a third one, still working well after 2 years...
