Q: Migrate Templates to new Machine...

Hello colleagues,

I am decommissioning an oldish 2009 iMac and moving it's functions over to a new one, and I wonder if anyone can help me find a reference that will help me get my motion templates moved over and correctly placed on the new machine so that FCPX finds/recognizes them and their associated media? I plan to just copy over the files and place them in (user)/movies/motion templates/generators/... but have you done this before? If so, any pointers?

I will check back in and share what I learned once I sort things out.

Thanks

Copy the (user) > Movies > Motion Templates folder as a whole to the new machine.

This only works with free templates and ones you've made yourself.

Templates that are third party with their own installer are not in those folders, and you'll need to run the installer again.

BenB was totally correct, and I was surprised at how trouble-free this transition was. I also encountered no compatibility issues: some of the templates over on my 2012 iMac were created on very early versions of FCPX/Motion4 and were completely unusable on that machine (Old Hardware + New Software = Gglitch fest!). My new 2016 iMac runs them all perfectly. Three cheers for not wasting re-usable work!
