Are you asking about the library chooser panel you get, when you are running the iPhoto Library Upgrader and click "Choose Library"?

The library can be grayed out for several reasons:

    1. If you already opened the library in Photos for Mac and the filename extension is now ".migratedphotolibrary".
    2. If it is an Aperture Library you used as your iPhoto Library.
    3. If the library has. been converted to a Photos Library. You cannot open the new Photos Library in iPhoto Library Upgrader.

You only need to uograde iPhoto Libraries that have been created by iPhoto 7.1.2 or an older version of iPhoto.

Which version of iPhoto created your library? Where is the library stored? On an external drive?  is it part of a Time Machine backup?
