Senior Citizen here. trying to set up apple tv and macbook air, just purchased both. how do i get macbook to stream to apple tv? thanks...

    Hi. First, enable AirPlay on the ATV. Then you should see a little TV icon (horizontal rectangle) in the computer menu bar. You can use it to mirror the computer screen on ATV, or even use it as an additional display. Alternatively, when you play a video, in Safari or another app, you should see the TV icon in the player. You can use this to stream the video to ATV. I  this mode, the video will fill the TV screen, because it's playing on the ATV.     on your MacBook go to System Preferences->Display and select "Airplay Display" to "Apple TV"

    and then on your Apple TV go to "Computers"

    On your MacBook Turn on Home Sharing using your Apple ID and password
