Why does my iPhone flip vertical video on its side?

I Have an iPhone 6S Plus and I noticed an issue when playing back my wedding videos. If I am shooting a video horizontally and proceed to turn the phone vertically, all appears fine with the recording until I play it back.

During playback, the point at which I turned my phone vertical during recording makes the video flip 90 degrees to the left During playback! Completely on its side I have to tilt the phone back to horizontal position to make it full screen but the video remains sidewards.

Im very annoyed the recording on my wedding ceremony turnout out like this. Does it sound like normal behavior? It basically means i have to shoot either vertical or horizontal but doing both on the Same video causes this issue.

iPhone 6s Plus, iOS 9.3.2, null

i don't think this is right. If the video flips normally during recording then why shouldn't it do the same during playback? I just just have to flip the phone vertical during vertical playback and also if I lock the screens orientation while the phone is turned vertical, it flips the orientation vertical and locks it. This means that during playback with orientation locked, vertical video will remain locked on its side but with a way smaller picture.

ive searched for this issue and haven't been able to find it which makes me think there is a hardware defect with my device.

Ssince you recorded the video partially in landscape and partially in portrait orientation, the playback behavior you see is normal.

As a temporary workaround, you can use the Control Center (slide from the bottom bezel up) to lock the iPhone's Orientation Lock.

As a more permanent solution, you'll need to split the video into two parts and rotate 90 degrees the "sideways" portion.

oh wow, I can't believe I wasn't able to find it reported, although its hard to put into words what the issue is. This is disappointing, I took a lot of video on Saturday and it has a lot of this orientation issue. But I guess you are right, I just tested on my wife's Samsung phone and it did the same thing.

I cant believe this limitation exists in this day and age!
