You won't be individually charged for songs downloaded through Apple Music, but they'll only play if you remain subscribed.

Songs downloaded from iTunes outside of Apple Music are charged individually; they're also one-time charges.

That was my understanding, I did the 3 month trial then opted for auto renewal, I though, but I started getting charges on my CC, after my CC indicated that my membership had been paid. Very aggravating.

What exactly are you being charged for?

Are you sure you are getting the songs through Apple Music?

If you are getting a price for each song when you download, then you are buying the songs outright, and not getting them through the Apple Music service.

Looks like if you use the iTunes store you get charged and if I go to NEW and find it there is no charge, a little confusing and missleading

Correct. Since there still  need to be able to purchase a song outright, iTunes store remains there for that.

Going through the New, of For You tabs will let you download through the Apple Music service.

Don't think there's anything misleading about it. There are 2 separate services.

Just remember Music downloaded through the Apple Music Subscription service is tied to the Subscription  service. If you ever decide to cancel it, then all the music obtained from it, and not actually purchased will stop playing.

Well crapola I figure that out after the fact, I haven't used the service in several weeks and when I did I went to that link and thinking that the charges were waved I clicked them, I would not have done that if I had realized I was being charge is there anyway to undo those purchases?

You can go to http://reportaproblem.apple.com and report the purchases you made and request a refund.

It's at Apple's discretion whether they will refund you or not so no guarantees as all sales are considered final according to the iTunes Store Terms of Service.
