Q: keynote quick time interactive

Hi ,

I need to export a keynote presentation in quicktime that can be presented with clicks instead of self running like a video. I remember doing in keynote 09. Now when I export I see the self playing option clicked already in the export option window and nothing else. I need to share my presentation with a team that uses windows. My presenetaioton has lots of animation and hence I need them to click and experience it. I don't want to use the HTML option.

Please help me out.

Thank you.

I need to export a keynote presentation in quicktime that can be presented with clicks instead of self running like a video.

Keynote version 6 series is unable to create a QuickTime with manual advance.

Keynote version 5.3 is still able to do this when installed In El Capitan, if you still have access to it on your Mac.

You can export to PowerPoint if your clients have PowerPoint or PowerPoint player installed in there windows machines.

Is there any work around this?

Yes they will be substituted by a replacement effect.

If a client wants a manual QT video, I create it completely in 5.3.

I did manage to create it in 5.3 and export to manual QT as showed by you, but when clicked to open its says converting and it converts to an ordinary quicktime video. Still Manual advance is missing!

    thanks.

Download and install QuickTime Player version 7 for Mac from the Apple webpage:   Download QuickTime Player 7

After installing, if you want Keynote 5.3 files to always open in QT 7:

    • right click a Keynote 5.3 file
    • select:   Get Info
    • click the open with dropdown menu and select QuickTime Player 7
    • click the change all button

Thanks Gary. This works. But I still hate the fact that apple has removed this feature from the latest Keynote and QT.

This makes me advice the client to download to older version of Qt and then play it, which is not possible in most of the cases. Is Apple even listening?

Never the less thank you for your support. Appreciate it.

which is not possible in most of the cases.

I supply my clients with a copy of the downloaded QT 7 installer when delivering a project created in Keynote 7.

    Is Apple even listening?

This issue is caused by the software behind Quicktime X which is unable to playback a manual advance QT movie.

As I understand it, it's not possible to change the code and not impact on other QT features.

As an alternative to QT, my advice to clients who want features that Keynote can't provide is to use another file format, PowerPoint and PDF both prevent the issue you have and provide a better playback quality than a video file.

I have this issue also. When I try to open the Keynote file created in Keynote 6.5.3 using the default application for the file set to QuickTime 7 as you describe,  I get a message that the deck cant be opened because "it is from an unidentified developer".

    Any help for that?

    Thank you

    I have this issue also.

You do not have the same issue as discussed here, Keynote version 6.5.3 is unable to create a Quicktime with manual advance. This has already been stated in this discussion.

When I try to open the Keynote file created in Keynote 6.5.3 using the default application for the file set to QuickTime 7 as you describe

Why are you trying to open a Keynote file with QuickTime? The only application that can open a Keynote file is Keynote.

Jumping into a discussion asking for help when using a different application from the original question with different outcomes confuses everyone.

You should start a new discussion (as recommended by Apple) so we can help your particular problem and explain the following:

    • the specific symptoms of the issue you are experiencing
    • what you are trying to do
    • the Mac model, Mac OS version and version of Keynote

Gary, my issue is the same asked by the original poster.

"I need to export a keynote presentation in quicktime that can be presented with clicks instead of self running like a video. "

"Why am I opening the Keynote file in Quicktime?"

You suggested it above. I am unable to do so, as I described.

"Jumping into a discussion asking for help when using a different application from the original question with different outcomes confuses everyone."

    Who? you?
