Aug 3, 2016 6:42 AM in response to georgepwsailorby turingtest2,Connect the device to iTunes and select it from this icon, then explore the options on the various pages.
You can set the option to manually manage from the summary page, though I'd generally recommend you sync with selected playlists. If you spend a little time setting these up it then become much easier to connect the device and have it update automatically. That way you can make sure it always has, for example, new, top rated, and most played content.

Aug 3, 2016 6:44 AM in response to georgepwsailorby JimmyCMPIT,What type of control are you looking for?
most if not all editing of the data (year, artist, title, etc.) or creating playlists can be performed through iTunes and both the gen6 and gen7 iPod require iTunes for synchronization.
the iPod iOS "inspired" OS gave little if any sorting functionality AFAKT.
see this thread for additional info

Aug 3, 2016 7:07 AM in response to turingtest2by georgepwsailor,Thanks tt2.
I have connected my iPod and that little button whilst visible, does not do anything if I left click or right click on it.
What do you mean by summary page?
I have explored every option on every menu and sub menu and still I cannot see a way to manually manage.
Can you give me some more clues?
Thanks.

Aug 3, 2016 7:09 AM in response to JimmyCMPITby georgepwsailor,Thanks Jimmy
The only control I am looking for is to be able to delete selected songs from my iPod to create some space and then move some other songs from my library to the iPod to replace them. I looked at the other thread but that didn't help.
Thanks.

If that isn't working then I suggest you tear down iTunes and reinstall with the steps in the second box of Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
