Q: How do I manually manage iPod songs?

Its an old iPod Nano.  Its great.  But its not that big.  Most of the time it lives in the car.

But it is full, and I want to change some of the music on it.  I cannot sync it with the iTunes library as that is bigger and it appears there is no way these days to manually manage the content.

I have iTunes 12 on a Windows 10 PC.

Does anyone know how I can control the content of the songs on my little ol' iPod?

Thanks.

Connect the device to iTunes and select it from this icon, then explore the options on the various pages.

You can set the option to manually manage from the summary page, though I'd generally recommend you sync with selected playlists. If you spend a little time setting these up it then become much easier to connect the device and have it update automatically. That way you can make sure it always has, for example, new, top rated, and most played content.

What type of control are you looking for?

most if not all editing of the data (year, artist, title, etc.) or creating playlists can be performed through iTunes and both the gen6 and gen7 iPod require iTunes for synchronization.

the iPod iOS "inspired" OS gave little if any sorting functionality AFAKT.

    Thanks tt2.

I have connected my iPod and that little button whilst visible, does not do anything if I left click or right click on it. itunes btn.PNG

What do you mean by summary page?

I have explored every option on every menu and sub menu and still I cannot see a way to manually manage.

Can you give me some more clues?

    Thanks.

    Thanks Jimmy

The only control I am looking for is to be able to delete selected songs from my iPod to create some space and then move some other songs from my library to the iPod to replace them.  I looked at the other thread but that didn't help.

    Thanks.

The display should change to something like this:

    ManageiPod.png

If that isn't working then I suggest you tear down iTunes and reinstall with the steps in the second box of Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.

Well, now that I have also logged into to my Apple ID account, it has.  I didnt have one before wanting to post this and I hadn't logged in.  But now that I have I see the summary option and the manually manage check box!

I suppose Big Brother doesn't like being left out...

    Thanks for your help.

    You're welcome.

Doesn't seem to matter here whether or not I'm signed into the store, but I'll keep that suggestion in mind if see this again.
