Q: Mail app missing reply and forward arrows

Few days ago, my mail stop to show reply and forward arrows when I reply or forward a message.

Really don't know what happened and it only happens at inbox, sent messages works fine.

OS X 10.9.5 mail 7.3. I have already;

- rebuilt inbox

- delete envelope

- already vacuum the files

- delete all mailboxes and imported again

- re installed Mavericks

nothing worked.

Any suggestion?

Thanks

MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Early 2013), OS X Mavericks (10.9.5)

Have you tried Mail/View/Customize Toolbar and dragged them into the toolbar?

    With Mail quit....

    Go to your User's Libary/Containers

Drag the com.apple.mail folder to the trash

Open Mail and see symbols are back.

You can try running the combo updater to refresh your files. It will often fix odd issues like this.

OS X Mavericks 10.9.5 Update (Combo)

    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1760

If you consider upgrading to El Capitan, there are big changes to Mail. If you export your local "On My Mac" folders, you can start clean then import the "On My Mac" exported data back into OS X 10.11 El Capitan Mail.

Before you do anything else, test one of your accounts in a new User. I'm assuming you have at least one IMAP account. See if the symbols show correctly in a new User. If yes, this tells us the problem is in your User's folder, but if they still don't show up then it is a base level problem.

You might have to reinstall OS X again if the combo fails to fix. This should not delete any of your files or apps, but it's always advised that you backup first.

    Open App Store

Under Purchases find your Mavericks installer.

    Select to download.

It will ask if you want to continue, say yes.

    Run the installer.

If you want to save, be sure to copy it before you run. Apple removes the installers after running.

    Dear Diane,

    My mail accounts are POP.

I have set new user add one mail account, unfortunately problem persists.

This morning when I turn on the compute open my email, everything was gone, mail accounts, messages, folders etc.

I had to reinstall and organize everything. It took me hours to do it (my email files are pretty big)

I will leave it as it is right now.

I will update the MacOS when the new version becomes available.

thanks for your help and suggestions

    Regards

If possible I suggest you switch from POP to IMAP. This way all your data will sync back including your custom folders. If you don't understand the difference, I'll be happy to explain.

It's possible this could be hardware related.

See this article on how to run diagnostics.

    http://osxdaily.com/2016/06/25/how-to-use-apple-hardware-test-to-diagnose-mac-pr oblems/

Download SMART Utility demo. Run it to check your drive. It’s a limited demo.

Boot into the Recovery Drive and run Repair Disk.

Boot into the Recovery Drive by holding down Command R when restarting.

Run Repair Drive using Disk Utility in Recovery.

I will update the MacOS when the new version becomes available.

If your drive is OK, the I would run the full installer for OS X Mavericks over itself. Something could be missing that the combo does not fix.
