Q: When logged in I in sometimes do not see all threads

Sometimes when I am logged in a viewing a question I do not see all the thread.

In the above screen grab is a question I commented on, in the left browser I am not logged in and you can see two comments, (there where another two below that one) and from memory there where about 10 comments in total.

In the right browser I am logged in but do not see the last 3 comments this browser is only showing 7 comments.

I know that when you are not logged in you see the comments sequentially and not nested, but this doesn't account the comment count being different.

This appears to be an ongoing issue that crops up from time to time. It is probably in part related to the fact that this site runs across multiple mirror servers. Sometimes one server or another probably gets behind. If you start seeing lots of people post nothing but a single dot you'll know it is affecting more people. This is a common strategy to reveal hidden posts when one view of the site is telling you there is updated content on a thread but you cannot see it.

It did "catch up" once I posted another comment, but only could comment to the OP and not the reply I needed to.

Useful to know it's not just me.

Don't buy that theory... here's why

You can visit a thread as a Guest and see the whole thread. Login and POOF goes one or more posts. Logout and Voila! they're back. No other action than logging.

Don't ask me to explain it though - all we can conclude is that it is somehow tied to your userID in the JiveSystem of DBs.

Feel free to use my made up term "Phantom Post" - kinda gotta ring to it I like Magic Twangers for your Four Links, although I cannot take credit for that term either - my old partner Brian  McKinney gets that one - "... then you punch the magic twanger and (stuff happens)"

AlohaBob doesn't mind us using "glitch du jour", although that one got used to DEATH because of all the occurrences.
